Just Starting Out...

Hey Guys.

So here's another attempt at organization... a blog. Music in Washington Square Park was awesome. We played through a bunch of songs, jammed for a while, played some hacky sack, ate food (the cookies were delicious Marie!) and even gave out free compliments to other park goers.

In the not so distant future I want to get together again. We want to make a 24 hour short film. Basically, whoever wants to be involved can be. If you want to lend a hand with ideas, writing, directing, acting, filming, editing, or whatever else, there will be plenty to do. Itll be a weekend day, but itll be all day and into the night most likely, so if you are only available for a short time, you can join in for that time whenever. Itll be interesting to see how it works out.

To clear up a little more about this whole "We're Doing Something" project...

Basically, we want to try and disrupt people's basic routines. Get people together to do something fun, and to meet people and learn and whatever. It occurs to me that most often people at NYU get together for either school related projects or at a party where there is drinking and whatnot. I'm looking for alternative gatherings with no obligation but something to do that is fun.

We want to create a community of people to keep in contact with, that will hopefully grow (friends from school, from work, from back home, and new people we meet through other people or by chance wherever) and do more interesting different things.

These things could be as dynamic as making a 24 hour film or as simple as a big snowball fight this winter sometime. Of course, if anyone has ideas, please share... I also have a great apartment for gathering people for anything.

I'm going to be working on the Obama campaign most likely. Then depending on what happens after the primaries, I might be dedicating a lot of time to the election one way or another. I want to put together some sort of ensemble show at some point. Its kinda along the lines of discussing issues going on right now that I feel strongly about. It would be a free performance somewhere in the city with music, film and theatre, probably. So if anyone wants to write a short 10-minute play about some critical world issue, or create a short film, or has some music they want to share, or if you want to act or be involved in any of the above, I'm curious to see who is interested.

I know everyone is really busy. Work and school and whatever. But the gatherings are meant to be fun as a thing to do. And the performance would be fun and expressive too, if you're like me and want to talk about things. The format would be a little unique, but we can make it work.
